Wisdom Tooth Removal Auckland
Wisdom Tooth Extraction – Right Here in East Auckland
If your wisdom teeth have been making themselves known — that deep ache at the back of your jaw, swollen gums, or a nagging discomfort that keeps coming back — you’re not alone, and you don’t have to put up with it. At Highland Park Dental Centre, we’ve been taking care of Auckland families for over 35 years, and wisdom tooth removal is one of our most requested procedures.
Dr Michael Zhuo performs wisdom tooth consultations and surgical extractions in-house, right here at our practice on Aberfeldy Avenue. That means we can deal with the majority of the cases right here, in house, and no being shuffled between clinics. Whether you’re dealing with an impacted lower wisdom tooth, a partially erupted molar that keeps getting infected, or teeth that simply never had room to come through properly — we assess, plan, and treat, all under one roof.
We see patients from across Auckland’s eastern suburbs: Howick, Botany, Bucklands Beach, Half Moon Bay, Pakuranga, and everywhere in between.
That Pain at the Back of Your Jaw Isn't Going Away on Its Own
Most people ignore wisdom tooth pain the first few times. You take some ibuprofen, the swelling eases, and life moves on. But if it keeps coming back — it’s telling you something.
Wisdom teeth are the last to arrive and often the first to cause trouble. When your jaw doesn’t have enough room for them to erupt cleanly, they can become impacted (stuck under the gum or bone), come through at an angle that pushes against neighbouring teeth, or partially erupt and leave a gum flap where bacteria quietly accumulate. The condition this creates — called pericoronitis — can cause significant swelling, pain, and in some cases, infection that spreads to your jaw and neck.
Sound familiar?
- Are you waking up with a sore jaw on one side?
- Has your dentist mentioned your wisdom teeth are “watching” or “at risk”?
- Have you had repeated infections or soreness at the very back of your mouth?
- Are you nervous about the procedure and have been putting it off?
These are exactly the situations we deal with every week. The good news is that wisdom tooth removal — especially when handled by an experienced practitioner — is far less intimidating than most people expect. And the longer you wait, the more complex (and uncomfortable) the situation tends to become.
A Local Practice That Knows This Part of Auckland
Highland Park Dental Centre has been part of the eastern suburbs community since 1990. We’re conveniently located in Highland Park, just off Pakuranga Road and easy to reach from Botany Town Centre, the Howick Villages, or the residential streets of Half Moon Bay and Farm Cove. Most of our patients are locals — families who have been coming to us for years, or new residents who found us through a neighbour’s recommendation.
The properties in this part of Auckland are a real mix: young families in newer Flat Bush and Botany Downs homes, long-time residents in the established streets of Howick and Bucklands Beach, and everything in between. We see patients in their late teens getting wisdom teeth out for the first time, and patients in their 40s finally dealing with an impacted tooth they’ve had monitored for years.
Whatever your situation, our approach is the same: take a proper panoramic X-ray, give you an honest assessment, explain your options clearly, and let you decide. No pressure, no unnecessary procedures.

Our Wisdom Tooth Services Include
Wisdom Tooth Consultation with Panoramic X-ray
Every case starts here. A full panoramic X-ray gives Dr Zhuo a complete picture of your wisdom teeth, their roots, their position relative to your nerve and adjacent teeth, and what the safest removal plan looks like.
Simple Wisdom Tooth Extraction
When a wisdom tooth has fully erupted and is accessible, removal can often be completed quickly under local anaesthetic with minimal recovery time.
Surgical Wisdom Tooth Removal
Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth usually require a surgical approach — carefully removing bone or sectioning the tooth to extract it safely. Dr Zhuo specialises in this and performs these procedures in-house.
IV Sedation
For patients with dental anxiety, or those having multiple wisdom teeth removed in one appointment, IV sedation is a game-changer. You’ll be deeply relaxed, unaware of the procedure, and comfortably monitored throughout. Dr Zhuo is IV sedation certified.
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) Healing
After surgical extractions, Dr Zhuo uses Platelet-Rich Fibrin technology — derived from your own blood — to accelerate socket healing and significantly reduce post-operative discomfort. This is a step most clinics simply don’t offer.
Complimentary Review Appointment
All extractions come with one complimentary follow-up appointment if needed. We don’t leave you to figure out recovery on your own.
Trusted by East Auckland Families for Over Three Decades
Highland Park Dental Centre isn’t a chain. It isn’t a high-volume production-line practice. It’s a family-owned clinic that opened in 1990 and has grown steadily through one thing: word of mouth from satisfied patients.
Our team includes three dentists and two oral health therapists, all committed to the same standard of care. When it comes to wisdom teeth, Dr Michael Zhuo brings specialist-level skills — oral surgery, IV sedation certification, and ongoing professional development — to a clinic that still feels like your local dentist. Pricing is always transparent. We publish our fees openly because we think you deserve to know what you’re getting into before you commit.
When you sit in our chair, you’re not a stranger. You’re a neighbour.
About Auckland's Eastern Suburbs
Auckland’s eastern suburbs — stretching from Highland Park and Howick through to Botany, Flat Bush, and Pakuranga — are home to a diverse and growing community. It’s a part of the city where families put down roots, where schools are close, and where the local GP and dentist still matter.
For residents of this part of Auckland, getting quality dental care close to home has always been important. Having to travel to the CBD or North Shore for specialist procedures like wisdom tooth surgery is an inconvenience most people would rather avoid. That’s part of why Highland Park Dental Centre has remained a fixture in this community for 35 years — we offer a level of care that doesn’t require you to go far.
Wisdom teeth don’t discriminate. They cause trouble for teenagers in Flat Bush, working professionals in Botany Downs, and parents in Bucklands Beach alike. Having a trusted local practice that can handle the full process — assessment, surgery, sedation, and follow-up — makes a real difference.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wisdom Tooth Removal in Auckland
How much does wisdom tooth removal cost in Auckland?
Our wisdom tooth consultation, including a full panoramic X-ray, is $95. Surgical extraction (covering wisdom teeth) is $450. IV sedation is a flat $450 per session — no hidden surprises. You’ll receive a clear quote before any treatment is booked.
Do I need to be referred to a specialist?
Not with us. Dr Michael Zhuo performs wisdom tooth surgery in-house, including complex impacted cases under IV sedation. Most patients can have their assessment and surgery done right here without needing a hospital or specialist referral.
Is IV sedation safe? What does it feel like?
IV sedation is very safe when administered by a certified practitioner. You remain in a deeply relaxed, semi-conscious state throughout — most patients have little to no memory of the procedure. Dr Zhuo is IV sedation certified and monitors patients throughout. It’s particularly popular for anxious patients and for multiple extractions in one session.
How long does recovery take?
Most people are back to light activities within 2–3 days. Swelling tends to peak around days 2–3 then gradually improves. Dr Zhuo uses PRF technology post-surgery to speed healing and reduce discomfort — a step above what most general practices provide. You’ll also have a complimentary review appointment available if needed.
Do you see patients from outside Highland Park?
Absolutely. We regularly see patients from Howick, Bucklands Beach, Botany, Pakuranga, Half Moon Bay, Flat Bush, Somerville, and across East Auckland. If you’re in the area or simply want to see a trusted local team, you’re welcome here.
